Dear MVMS community,

Over the summer, Rio Rancho Public Schools took on a very large and complex project for Mountain View Middle School that included:
·        a new HVAC system including ductwork, diffusers and digital controls;
·        LED lighting upgrades to interior spaces including administration area, media center, cafeteria, band, choir, hallways and gymnasium;
·        electrical upgrades as needed; and
·        new ceiling grid and tiles and new polished concrete in areas with ceramic tile

This was an enormous task yet we were optimistic that we would be able to complete it by the start of school. Throughout the summer, we experienced some setbacks due to COVID-19 in particularly delays in materials and equipment. We continued to work diligently with contractors hopeful to complete the project on time. We have continued to experience some delays and unfortunately, while very close to completion, we have been unable to finish the project.

Due to these delays, we feel that our best course of action is to have students attend school virtually for the first two weeks for Mountain View Middle School. School will start on August 5, 2021 as scheduled; however, students will participate remotely. We felt this option was best as it would not only ensure the safety of students but also make certain that the building is properly ventilated and can effectively meet all COVID-safe practices.

This is not a decision that we are taking lightly, and we can assure you that we worked very closely with Mountain View Middle School administration and our Facilities, Technology, Transportation, Curriculum and Instruction, Safety and Security, and Food Service Departments to consider all possible solutions. Our teachers will be working diligently to ensure a powerful start to the school year, though it will be virtual.

These are exciting and long overdue upgrades for Mountain View Middle School and some work will continue after we return in-person. That said, we will have everything safe and ready for in-person learning on Monday, August 23.

Please watch your emails for additional information on materials pickup and curbside meals. These emails will come from your new principal, Tamyra Telles.

We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this project. Our district is committed to ensuring our schools are well-maintained for future generations and this project will help ensure Mountain View Middle School meets this standard.
