NEW COVID ATHLETIC INFORMATION

The following documents are needed to participate and can be turned in to Coach Mondragon. You may find forms on the link below.

  • Athletes attending school 100% virtually or hybrid they qualify to try out for each sport.
  • Each student athlete will be required to have a sports physical and may use last year’s physical for participation. If you did not submit one to the MVMS athletic department last year you will need to complete a physical and turn in to Martin Mondragon at MVMS. NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Virtual and Hybrid student’s eligibility will be at the end of quarter or semester to determine eligibility. Athletes must have a 2.0 GPA with no more than 1 F. Athletes NOT ABLE TO MEET REQUIREMENTS IN EDGENUITY OR GOOGLE CLASSROOM WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRYOUT. We are following NMAA guidelines.

Dates for Middle School Athletics

7th and 8th Grade Volleyball-begins on October 5th and runs to November 24th.

7th and 8th Grade Basketball (boys/girls)-begins on January 4th to February 26th.

8th Grade Football-begins on February 22nd to April 16th.

6th-8th Grade Wrestling-begins on April 12th to June 4th.

6th-8th Grade Baseball/Softball-begins April 5th to June 11th.

7th and 8th Grade Track and Field-begins April 5th to June 11th. (Limited number of athletes this year)

All our Middle School sports seasons will be slightly modified to a lower number of games. ALL practices will be about 1-2 weeks long depending on the sport, Football will have 2-3 weeks prior to any games being played. Tryouts will be on the first day of the sport as indicated above and for 2 days.  In order to be eligible for sports, student athletes SHALL have at least a 2.0 GPA at the end of quarter or semester, with no F's. 


7TH & 8TH GRADE VOLLEYBALL STARTING OCTOBER

7th Grade Tryouts   October 5th & 6th     3:30 to 7:00

8th Grade Tryouts   October 7th & 8th     3:30 to 7:00

  • All Athletes will have a 2 day tryout.
  • All athletes will sign up with Coach Mondragon through Email. Coach Mondragon will email Athletes as to what time their tryout will be. 
  • We are limited to 18 Athletes per 2 coaches at one time. I will divide the gym in half to have 2 pods. It will be 1 coach per 9 Athletes. The next day coaches will switch Athletes and give evaluations. 
  • Coaches will select Teams with 14 players.
  • Coaches will contact the students through email if they have made the team.
  • Once Teams are selected Coach Mondragon will have a parent meeting to review guidelines and expectations.

Volleyball NMAA Guidelines

  1. Must have their temperature check before entering gym.
  2. Must wear long sleeve shirt to all practices and games.
  3. Must bring own water bottle as water fountains are closed.
  4. Must wear a mask at all times during practice & Games.
  5. Only Athletes are allowed in the gym. Parents must wait for their athlete in the parking lot.

Athletic Department must have the following documents before tryouts

  1. Physical Packet Complete, History Form, Concussion Form (Could use last years if you turned in to Coach M)
  2. Coronavirus Acknowledged Form
  3. Copy of Insurance

If interested in playing volleyball please email Coach Mondragon martin.mondragon@rrps.net to sign up for your tryout. DEADLINE TO SIGN UP IS OCTOBER 2nd 7:00 PM. I will email athletes to let them know their time of tryout for the 2 days of tryouts on October 3rd and 4th. Tryouts will be from 4:00 to 5:30 and 5:30 to 7:00. Those will be the 2 times slots available.

Our Middle School Athletics will look different this year and with safe practices, our students will be given the opportunity to play. I will be posting information on the MVMS Web Page as information comes in. If we all work together and have a positive attitude we can have a successful season. Student concussion certificate of completion (click HERE to access course)  Sign up for an account, add the student concussion course to your basket (course is free) and complete the course.  At the end of the course you will be issued a certificate of completion.  This certificate will need to be downloaded and emailed or turned into martin.mondragon@rrps.net 


      Sports offered at MVMS


 
7th &  8th Grade Volleyball- There will be tryouts with one team of 12 to 15 players on the team. Teams will be selected by our coaches and along with help from CHS Volleyball Coaches. Players will be evaluated on skill level, fundamentals of the game, understanding of the game, attitude and being coachable. 



8th Grade Football- Football is for 8th- grade only. There are no tryouts and all athletes will be part of the team. MVMS football is a travel team and plays teams like Grants, Los Lunas, Santa Fe and all Rio Rancho Middle Schools. 
 


7th and 8th Grade Boys and Girls Basketball- There will be tryouts for all teams with one team being selected. Each team will have a roster of 12 to 15 players. The 7th-grade boys will travel with the 8th-grade boys team and the 7th-grade girls will travel with 8th-grade girls team. Teams will be selected by our coaches along with CHS basketball coaches. Players will be evaluated on skill level, fundamentals of the game, understanding of the game, and attitude. 

 

6th, 7th & 8th Grade Wrestling- Wrestling is for 6th, 7th  and 8th grade . There are no tryouts. All practices will be held at Rio Rancho Middle School. Must provide own transportation to practice. MVMS and RRMS combine to make one team. It is a travel team and competes with local schools. 

 

 

7th and 8th Grade Track and Field- Track and field is for 7th and 8th-grade boys and girls. There are no tryouts. MVMS combines with RRMS to make one team. Track teams travel to compete with surrounding area schools. Practices are held at CHS and athletes must provide their own transportation to practice.

 
6th, 7th and 8th Grade Baseball- Baseball is offered to 6th,7th A  physical, history form and a copy of insurance card must be complete and on file in prior to tryouts. and 8th-grade boys. There will be tryouts for baseball. Team roster is from 18 to 25 players. Players will be evaluated on skill level, fundamentals of the game, understanding of the game, attitude and being coachable.

6th,7th and 8th Grade Softball- Softball is offered to 6th,7th  and 8th grade. There will be tryouts. with 18 to 25 players on the team. Players will be evaluated on skill level, fundamentals of the game, understanding of the game, and attitude.
