Welcome to 8th Grade Early U.S. History!
This course covers Early United States History from our colonial heritage through the Civil War and Reconstruction.  During the first semester, key attention will be paid to the colonization, Revolutionary and Constitutional eras.  Students will learn about the consequences of colonization and the resultant Revolution, as well as the creation of a more just government as provided by the U.S. Constitution.  Westward expansion, industrialization, immigration, slavery, and the causes and consequences of the Civil War will be the focus of the second semester.  The second semester will further develop students' reasoning skills and their ability to show evidence of this through their writing.  Throughout the course, students will develop their ability to research historical events, interpret these events and defend their interpretations using fact-based evidence.
