Hello Families,

Fall is in the air!  It's going to be a very busy month as we have a lot of exciting events and information to share with you.

  • With the fall months, comes colder more unpredictable weather.  We ask that you check your child's cubby and replace the "summer sets" of clothing and blankets with warmer "winter sets".  Please label your child's belongings with their initials.
  • Library checkout will begin on Thursday, October 5th and will occur every other Thursday. The library has a new system that will only allow non-SSPS kiddos to check out books from EMDC.  In other words, if your child attends Shining Stars, they will not be checking out a book through EMDC this year, only through Shining Stars.  Ms. CJ, the librarian, will continue coming on Thursday mornings to do a story time with the preschool and pre-k children.  Library books should be returned by Tuesday prior to library day.
  • Please be sure to grab your communication journal each day when you pick up your child.  It goes back and forth daily and allows us to share information that isn't always get communicated directly to you as it can sometimes be a little hectic at drop-off and pick-up.
  • Breana Martinez's first day with us will be Monday, October 2nd.  She has worked in a daycare setting for the past several years. She will be covering in the Pre-K Classroom from 10:30am-5:30pm, until Ms. Nicole returns from student teaching in January.  At that time, she will be a floater for all the  classrooms.  We're so excited to have her as part of our team.
  • Just a reminder, please do not allow your child to bring personal items from home unless previously approved by their teacher.  Throughout the school year, we provide a few opportunities for your child to bring that something special that can be shared with their friends and teachers.
  • Please click on the calendar to the left; we have several events happening this month.  Balloons Aloft will be happening this Friday from 7:00am - 8:00am. It's a very exciting event for the children.  If you're unable to attend, we will be taking children outside to watch the balloons.  It will also be a pajama day!
  • Our Halloween festivities will take place on Friday, October 27th.  The children can dress up and we will take them "trick or treating" through each classroom.  As usual, our food and snacks will be provided by the kitchen, but you are welcome to bring in a special snack or treat.
  • We have several volunteers at our center this year.  They have all gone through the volunteer process and/or are employees with RRPS. Solana Armijo is coming back this year.  She is attends Cleveland HS and is part of the National Honor Society.  She is very sweet and kind and loves being here with the children.  She will be here on Wednesday afternoons from 2-3.  Barb Dougherty worked at SSPS for 11 years and is now doing her practicum at EMDC every Wednesday from 8:30-4:30, until the end of October.  Dianne Johnson works at SSPS and will be with us on Wednesdays from 8-12.

Thank you for sharing your children with us.

I’m always happy to help.  Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.

Hello Parents,

It's October and fall is in the air.  It's a great time of year! We'll be singing 'Five Little Pumpkins' and learning the signs for "please" and "pumpkin".  We will be reading 'Here Comes Halloween' with the children and doing some fun fall activities.

Happy Fall!

This month is going to be full of tons of fun stuff! We will be doing Fall and Halloween themed projects while continuing to encourage manners and our classroom rules; everyone has been doing very well with them! Among our many activities happening this month, we will be having our classroom Halloween party Friday the 27th.

Now that I have met most of you personally, I wanted to give you all a bit of background about myself. My name is Samantha Drake, I have been married to my high school sweetheart for almost three years now. We have an amazing son, Michael, who is 18 months old and are expecting our second child in March. We have two dogs, one hamster, 16 frogs, and a slew of pond fish. I have been working in an Early Childhood setting for a total of almost five years. Come this Fall I plan to continue working toward my Elementary and Special Education Bachelor degrees while also pursuing my Early Childhood Associates degree. I enjoy reading and skiing (while I'm not pregnant), and am super excited to work with your children! As Ms. Mia has stated before, our door is always open, so if you ever have questions please do not hesitate to come speak with us!

Thank you,
Ms. Mia and Ms. Sam

Happy Fall Parents!

Wow, it's that time of year when the weather is changing. There are so many things happening from the Balloon Fiesta to Halloween.  We will be discussing and doing activities centered around the Balloon Fiesta, farming and Halloween.  Look for your child to come home with finger painted balloons, egg carton witches, the life cycle of a chicken and much more.
